Contact Elizabeth Daly at EDaly@bankerstrust.com or 896-7785 if you have a suggestion for a speaker who meets the following guidelines.

General

  1. Speakers should provide a program of general interest to the club members. The speakers and topics can include the following:
    1. community events
    2. local area leaders discussing community topics
    3. timely local issues
    4. Rotary leaders, such as district or Rotary International representatives
    5. Non-profit or human service organizations, with topics generally pertaining to the mission of Daybreak Rotary
    6. Current Daybreak Rotary members are allowed, as long as their topics pertain to the above guidelines

  1. Daybreak Rotary shall not have speakers with the following topics:
    1. Company Advertisement or direct sale of goods
    2. Solicitation of the membership for fund raising, unless prior approved by the President
  • i. Example: another Rotary representative may "solicit" the sale of tickets to another club's event
  1.
    1. Any topic that may be deemed offensive to the general membership of the club

  1. The club shall make every effort to accommodate speakers with a "political" message, if there is an open date on the calendar
    1. Generally, the club will not solicit political speakers, unless under special circumstances (for example, exception might be to ask a visiting national politician to visit our club)
    2. The club will not automatically attempt to accommodate "equal time" for opposing candidates, unless that candidate specifically asks the club, and there is an open date on the calendar
    3. In the event we have more requests than dates allowed, we can have multiple  speakers at a single meeting, each with limited time

  1. Every effort will be made to accommodate the length of time requested by the speaker
    1. Likewise every effort will be made to end the meeting precisely at 8:00am
    2. Exceptions for additional time can be made by the presiding club officer, although time shall be allotted to allow for any member to be excused from the meeting

  1. Political Speakers
    1. Federal legislators (U.S. Senate and U.S. Representatives) will be invited each year.
    2. Governor of Iowa will be invited each year.
    3. Solicitations by U.S. Presidential candidates will be accommodated as best as possible.
    4. At least one member of the C.R. City Council will be invited each year.
    5. Solicitations by all other state and local legislators and candidates will be reviewed by the Speakers committee and acted upon based on interest of the Daybreak membership.

Regular Pre-assigned Meeting Speakers

  1. November is deemed as "Rotary Foundation Month" - the current President-Elect will be responsible for scheduling speakers for each meeting during this month
  2. The 3rd Friday of ODD numbered months (Jan, Mar, May, etc.) are deemed as reserved for club Committee Meetings, and no speaker will be necessary
  3. One meeting during the December holiday season, and one meeting during the Spring, shall be held at Polk School as arranged by the Community Service Committee, and no speaker shall be necessary
  4. The last meeting of the Rotary year (on or about July 1) shall be chosen by the outgoing President as the "passing of the gavel" meeting, and no speaker will be necessary
  5. Specialty meetings such as member "breakout sessions" may be held from time to time, and no speaker will be necessary.
  6. There may be other meetings that may not require a speaker, as determined by the Board of Directors.
