The United Way of East Central Iowa is launching its first Text-To-Give program, with all proceeds being used to purchase books for early childhood programs which serve low-income populations.

Between Nov. 1 and 24, anyone with a mobile phone with text-messaging capability can text "UWECI" to 864833 to make a $5 contribution. As an added incentive, each contribution will be matched dollar for dollar with funds from United Way's Young Leaders Society.

"United Way of East Central Iowa is committed to helping children in our communities be ready to learn when they enter school," said CEO Lois Buntz. "Our goal, over the next five years, is to increase by 50% the number of low-income kids who are ready for kindergarten."
